I am very practical. Some would so annoyingly so. This is one chic who WANTS practical gifts. I celebrated that I got a new mop for my birthday. Yes, my husband has it made.
The upside of this is that I am easy to please. The downside is that I like to give practical gifts for my friends and family. Strangely, they don’t share in my joy of practical gifting. It has now become a game with them; who can get Marnie the most UNpractical gift that she will grudgingly admit is still prey cool? This past birthday I got a small Lego set of The Lord of the Rings. Lego Frodo, Sam, and Gandalf sit on my book shelf above my sewing machine. And I must admit, they’re pretty cool.
So I’m asking you for your thoughts on my idea this past Holiday season that got a resounding NO from family…
1) Wrap gifts with the comics. The fancy paper gets ripped and recycled anyway.
2) Ok, how about gifts from adult to adult in the newspaper, but keep the kids in regular wrapping paper?
I know, I know. You can save the wrapping paper and use it over and over. I have found that not to really be the case with an excited little boy.
Now here is one idea that I think is FABULOUS. It is a bit time consuming, but it really dresses a gift nicely. Save your Christmas cards. Tear off the pretty cover, provided the inside of it is blank. Use those as the gift tags for next year. It would add a bit of the holiday imagery to the newspaper, don’t you think? I thought I was all innovative and ‘green’ doing this for many years until I saw it all over Pinterest.
